The UK Tier 2 (Gen) visa is a Pont Based System of assessment for skilled professionals seeking employment in the UK. To be eligible, you must have a job offer and a Certificate of Sponsorship (COS) from a UK employer with a valid Tier 2 Sponsor licence.
The duration for stay in the UK is for a maximum period of 5 years and 14 days, or the time-period mentioned on your certificate of sponsorship plus 1 month, whichever is shorter.
Applicants must score at least 70 points to be eligible for the UK Tier 2 (Gen) visa. Points are awarded for:
- Certificate of Sponsorship.
- Appropriate salary.
- English language assessment.
- Maintenance funds.

A certificate of sponsorship holds your personal details and information about the job you’ve been offered. It’s an electronic record, not a paper document. Your sponsor will give you a certificate of sponsorship reference number to add to your application.
Passport must be valid for at least 6 months prior to application and have two available blank pages.
It is at the discretion of the visa officer at the Embassy if they wish to call you in for a personal interview or not.
Your family members (‘dependants’) can come with you when you come to the UK on this visa..
A ‘dependant’ is any of the following:
- your husband, wife or partner.
- your child under 18.
The dependents will receive the same period of leave as the main Tier 2 applicant. They will be able to work without restriction in the UK.
