What is a Certificate of Sponsorship (COS)?

A certificate of sponsorship holds your personal details and information about the job you’ve been offered. It’s an electronic record, not a paper document. Your sponsor will give you a certificate of sponsorship reference number to add to your application.

How long should my passport be valid prior to visa application?

Passport must be valid for at least 6 months prior to application and have two available blank pages.

Is a personal interview mandatory?

It is at the discretion of the visa officer at the Embassy if they wish to call you in for a personal interview or not.

Who qualifies as a dependent?

A ‘dependant’ is any of the following:

  • your husband, wife or partner.
  • your child under 18.
Can I work in the UK on a Tier 2 Dependent visa?

The dependents will receive the same period of leave as the main Tier 2 applicant. You will be able to work without restriction in the UK.

Can my spouse / dependents apply for their visas at the same time as me?

Yes, they can apply at the same time or anytime later as well.

 

Do I need an appointment to submit my visa application?

Yes, prior appointment is mandatory.

My passport has expired but my Tier 2 - Dependent visa is still valid. Can I still travel with my new passport?

Yes. You need to carry both passports with you i.e. new passport (all the personal info must match the old passport) and the expired passport with a valid visa.

Is the processing time mentioned fixed / maximum time taken by the embassy?

The processing time mentioned is only a guide based on information released by the embassy or specific time of year etc. 

Who decided if I get a visa or not?

Visa approval is at the sole discretion of the visa officer.

Is the visa fee refundable in case my visa is refused?

Visa fee and other applicable charges are non-refundable.

Do I need to appear in person to submit my case?

Yes, it is mandatory for applicants to apply in person and submit their case file and provide biometric information.

Can I be asked to submit additional documents post submission of case?

Sometimes, the embassy may request additional documents to aid their decision.
